Vintage Inspired Hot Chocolate Station

If you recently came to take my holiday home tour, you would have seen the hot chocolate station I set up in the kitchen. If not, I am sharing the full details of it here today! I went with a vintage inspired theme and my whole family loves it. Although, I keep catching my kids stealing the marshmallows :)
This was the first year I set up a hot chocolate bar, but I think it will become a holiday tradition now.

We have an old desk in our kitchen that serves as an island. I knew that would be the perfect spot for it. The first thing that I did was cover the table in polka-dot burlap fabric that I purchased from Jo-Ann's several months ago. I actually measured the length of the table and then cut the fabric about four inches longer on each side. Since it was very stiff, I literally ironed a crease where it would drape over the table.
In October, I went to the annual Ronald McDonald charity sale that we have in our area, and found four vintage Santa mugs. The day I was at the sale, they were 75% off of .75 each. Good deal, right? Two are more old and worn than the others, but those ones are my favorites.
Each mug needed a candy cane of course, and the rest were simply put in an old blue mason jar.
I was liking the mixture of red with the dark aqua blue, so I also added a couple of old tins that I have collected through the years. They also make great storage for Christmas cookies! (Out of sight out of mind right? Ha!)
On the other side of the table, I put the marshmallows and hot chocolate mix in more old blue mason jars. Our vintage elf, "Nelf", who is staying with us this holiday season, decided to hang out there for a bit. My children did not like this, considering he might "steal" their marshmallows.
For the hot chocolate jar, I printed off Finding Silver Pennies' "Cold Hands Warm Heart" free printable and turned it into a small tag with some red seam binding ribbon. The perfect touch!
I mentioned in my second holiday home tour post how much I had been wanting an old toy truck for our Christmas decor this year. When my mom brought this one over, I was so excited! I had to add it to this little vignette...with some candy in the back.
Finally, in the middle...an antique Christmas postcard from 1911 rests in an old metal flower frog.
So there you have it! Our little vintage inspired hot chocolate station!

I have some other other news to share today as well...the first...it's my 33rd birthday. I always feel like a kid on my birthday no matter the age. I probably still will should I make it to 83. Today, will be extra special because I get to spend it with my three favorite people. My husband has the day off from work and after the kids take a nap, my mom comes to watch them. so we can sneak out and do some Christmas shopping and spend the evening together.
The other bit of news, is that today my home tour is being featured over at Unskinny Boppy! When Beth asked me to be part of her week of Holiday Home Tours, I was completely in shock that she even knew who I was. It is a huge honor, and I hope you will head over to check out my post on her blog, along with the other talented folks she is featuring this week!

And, the last little bit of news is that my home tour was featured on Country Living last week! What a dream come true kind of year it has been. I am so humbled by these amazing gifts bestowed upon me and this little blog of mine. This has been an amazing year, and I can't wait to see what is in store for the next. I am so grateful for all of you who come week after week to pop in and say hello to me and leave me your thoughts. They always fill me with delight. This year has been proof to me that dreams really do come true.

At the end of this week, I will be taking a blogging break (until around the second week of the new year) to spend time with my family and unplug, but I do have a couple of scheduled posts in the works. I look forward to the time off and revving up for the new year with you!

Be sure to come back on Wednesday when I am sharing a dear friend's holiday home tour! You don't want to miss it! She has impeccable style and an amazing home.

Be blessed this week!

Till next time...
