Sundays at Home No. 51 Weekly Link Party

Welcome to week 51 of Sundays at Home. Today, the party will be held solely on my co-host's blog, Love of Home. Please head her way to link up! She is looking forward to getting to know you and seeing all that you have to share.

Sadly, today, I had to say goodbye to my grandfather. He has not been well since my grandmother and uncle died in January. I was with much of my family surrounding him in love and comfort at his home today when he took his final breaths and left us. It is heartbreaking since he is one of the finest men this world has ever known. But I know it is heaven's gain. I posted this yesterday on Instagram...
Goodbyes are never easy. They challenge us and we fight them. Right now my mind has the arduous task of telling my heart it is okay to let my grandpa go. My mind knows that his body is frail and weak and hurting. And he is ready. Like this photograph taken of him oh so many years ago, he is fading fast. But my heart won't hear it. My heart wants to fight it. Because it's selfish and just wants to keep him here a little bit longer...to hear his stories about his parents' ice cream parlor and what it was like during "WWII" (he always called it that ;). To have him bring me old things he found around the house that he wanted me to have. To hear him laugh and say my name. To feel his warm hug while he wears his favorite sweater. And feel his scruffiness as he kisses my cheek. Goodbyes are never easy.

So because I will be away, the party today will be hosted over at Susan's blog. Please visit her and link up, say hello and visit some others.

Thank you so much for all the kind words and prayers. I appreciate all of you so much.

Till next time...
~Alice W.

  6. Dear, Alice. What a beautiful tribute to your grandpa. As someone who lost all of their grandparents at a young age, I am so appreciative of other people's grandparent stories and memories. You both indeed were so lucky to have one another, I love that he brought you treasures and shared his War stories... just amazing. Thinking of you! XO

ps. my heart swooned at his Military photo you shared on Instagram... I love vintage photos, and it's so nice you have such a great keepsake.

  17. Stopping by Alice to extend my thoughts as to when I saw your FaceBook posting of the passing of your beloved Grandfather. I felt very much as you did when I lost my last grandparent several years ago. He was the light of our family and the one that rooted us in family history. A clam gental spirit he was.....much like what I hear from your heart about your beloved grand father.

I wanted to stop by to let you know God has big plans for your beloved and that we are praying for your family's comfort.

See you soon beautiful hearted Alice.

    Xx
    Prayers

    Dore
