Boho Eclectic Bedroom: Source List & Makeover Plans

I have partnered with Raymour & Flanigan for this post. All expressed opinions are 100% my own. This post also contains some affiliate links for which I may receive a small commission. Full disclosure.

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that my husband and I are finally going to focus on making a bedroom retreat for ourselves. We haven't had a dedicated bedroom since before having kids. After they were born it has served double duty with the other side taking on various roles such as baby nursery, storage room and art studio. Well, not anymore. We moved to the smaller of our two bedrooms and are now in the process of making the boho eclectic bedroom of my dreams.
Today, I am excited to share my makeover plans with you along with the products and decor that will be pulling together this "retreat."

Deer Antler Ring Holder

I have always loved jewelry and have a thing for finding unique ways to display all of it. A couple of weeks ago, I showed a glimpse into our new bedroom with some simple storage ideas for jewelry including a real deer antler.
I picked this antler up from an antique mall for $10 and decorated with it from time to time. Then when I saw this idea (affiliate link*) from Urban Outfitters, I knew that it was exactly what I wanted to do with it.

Design Crush: Mid-Century Sideboards & Consoles

I am currently loving all things mid century in home decor. Years ago, I would have said heck no to this style, but now I can't get enough. When we moved my grandparents HiFi record console into our living room, it added the exact vibe I was craving. Today, I am sharing some of my favorite mid-century inspired sideboards, buffets and consoles that I am crushing on.

I would love to add a mid century style buffet or sideboard to our dining room…if only space would allow. I love browsing Pinterest to see how others have styled them, which makes me long to have another one even more. The one that we have is very low, so my children often play with everything on it…which means I really don't have free reign, just yet, in how I decorate it.

Log Cabin Home Tour: Master Bedroom

Last summer, my family and I stayed at a gorgeous log cabin in the Adirondacks. I have previously shared tours of the kitchen and living room, as well as a post about our trip in general. Today, I am finally getting around to sharing the room that we stayed in…the top level master bedroom.
The entire home was impressive, but when I walked into this bedroom with vaulted ceilings, a reading nook and its own fireplace I was floored. It was a stunner…let me tell you. I could definitely imagine doing it up in my own eclectic bohemian style! What fun that would be. But here is a little tour of how it looked when we got to enjoy a weekend away here.

Rustic Tray Styling & Remembering Grandpa

Last week, I shared a little behind the scenes of how I hide our winter gear in a home with no coat closet or usable mudroom. One important piece to that, is the storage ottoman we keep in the living room. Today, I am showing how I have styled it on top, this winter, with a new rustic serving tray.
My mom gave me this wooden tray, with a blue plaid/flannel insert, for Christmas last year. After I opened it she said it was to remember Grandpa by. My heart ached for a moment, and I had to fight back the tears.

Organizing Winter Gear without a Closet or Mudroom

Even though this winter has been a mild one for us, there have still been plenty of cold days requiring getting all bundled up before heading out. Unfortunately, without having a coat closet on the first floor, we are limited for storage of all of our gear. Today, I am sharing some solutions that have worked to help keep it all organized.
Our home, thankfully, has decent sized closets upstairs, but not even one downstairs! We do have a small "mudroom", that leads to the basement, off the back of the house, but we never use that entrance. The space is in pretty rough shape and it's very tight, so it's not practical for our daily use.

The Bedroom Switch

I mentioned last week that my husband and I just recently swapped our large master bedroom for the kids' small shared room. We live in a 1300 square foot, two bedroom and this has been a project I had been wanting to tackle for well over a year. Don't you love when you finally knock something big off of your "list to do"? Today, I am giving a little sneak peek of how I quickly pulled it together in the interim, before it gets a full on makeover.
With so much "stuff" upstairs, I stalled on this project for such a long time. What finally got me motivated was decluttering. We literally donated two to three minivans full!

Simplifying my decor has breathed new life into our home. I highly encourage it, if you feel stuck with pulling your home together. I donated a painful amount of belongings, but even months later, I don't miss ANY of it. In fact, I am relieved it is gone. It can't weigh me down anymore.

Vintage Eclectic Jewelry Display

If you love jewelry as much as I, today's post is for you! Especially if you love organizing it in creative and unique ways. Which is basically what I am all about around our home…
I have always loved jewelry and have grown quite a stash over the years. In high school I had four ear piercings on each ear, wore ten to twelve silver rings every day and doubled up on some fingers. I got my belly button pierced the day of my high school graduation party (much to my mother's chagrin) and always wore layers of necklaces and bracelets. Later, I got into vintage style and often wore costume jewelry and brooches. I would scour flea markets for really unique ones to add to my collection. I still love those pieces.

Neutral Bohemian Home Accents

I have always been a fan of neutral decor regardless of any current style trends. Neutral, in my mind, meaning a white, cream, tan, brown, gray and black color palette. Even as my style has evolved from rustic farmhouse to more eclectic bohemian in the past couple of years, I still find myself drawn to neutrals and love having them surround my home, now often punctuated with more colorful pieces. I am also a huge fan of texture. Neutrals + texture = pure heaven in my book!
Today, I am sharing some of my favorites pieces that fit the bill. I have several of these pieces in my own home so you can see first hand how I have incorporated them to fit my style.

Nostalgic Christmas Tree & Making Memories

Christmas is almost upon us! Which actually gets me a little sad that this magical time will soon be over, but before it is, I wanted to share more details of our nostalgic Christmas tree and some of the memories we have been making this holiday season.
I shared my full holiday home tour last week, but our tree is pretty special to me since we received several of my grandparents' ornaments. Both of them passed away earlier this year (my grandmother in January and my grandfather in March), so it has been a time of loss and remembering. I am grateful to have these small mementos to keep their memory alive in our home.

Holiday Home Tour 2015

This Christmas season has been special for me. With a three and four year old, it is absolutely the best time of year, so I have been taking things slow to savor all of the sweet moments and create lasting memories. I decided to hold off on doing a holiday home tour post for just that reason, but I'm happy to share it with you today.
I was invited to two large group tours and was a bit sad to turn them down, but I knew it would cause me a lot of stress getting our home all done up the week after Thanksgiving. I wanted to take my time and not get lost focusing on what everyone else would be impressed by, but what would make every day magical for my little ones. So that is what I am sharing today: our kid-centered, real life holiday home. I hope you enjoy the "visit"…

Rustic Bohemian Thanksgiving Tablescape

I have received product from Raymour & Flanigan in exchange for this post. All expressed opinions are 100% my own. Full disclosure.

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching and devastating events taking place around the world, I have been spending a lot of time reflecting on all that I have to be grateful for. And there is so much. It is easy to get caught up in all of the "wish I had's" or "if only's" and lose sight of the blessings right in front of us. The beautiful real life I have right now. My little family, our health and the love we share.

That is what I plan to do this Thanksgiving:

See all of the big and little blessings in the here and now.
One blessing I had this past year, was the ability to give my dining room a mini redo thanks to the good folks at Raymour & Flanigan. If you have followed me for awhile, you may have seen my dining room before that only ever had thrift store and vintage finds.

That worked for awhile, but those pieces had definitely seen better days. I was really feeling it was time for some big changes furniture wise, which is when Josh and I headed out to see if we might find a brand new table that fit our style.

The Perfect Casual Seating Solution for Small Space Decorating

I have received product from Jonathan Louis in exchange for this post. All expressed opinions are 100% my own.

Small spaces can be some of the hardest to decorate. My living room has driven me all levels of crazy ever since we moved into this home in 2010 because of its awkward layout and small size. I am constantly rearranging pieces and swapping things in and out trying to find the solution to the design dilemma it poses.
Providing extra seating has been the trickiest problem for me. I can get a couch in here, but beyond that, I haven't known what to do. This has been the situation for several months, and today I am excited to share the perfect solution I found!

Creating a Personal & Cozy Home for Fall

Fall is in all its glory here in Western New York right now. My favorite time of year! The leaves are reaching their peak colors and just enough of them are falling off for the kids to jump and play. I shared my fall home tour last month, but today, I wanted to share with you how I strive to make this season personal and cozy for my family. I am joining in with some of my best blogging friends for Seasons of Home: Fall Edition. Be sure to visit them at the end of this post to see what fall inspiration they have to share!
Even just as a hint of this season is in the air, my whole spirit is lifted in a way I can't describe in words. I become alive all over again…my senses are awakened and my focus shifts to what matters most…enjoying every minute of this fleeting time.

Swap It Like It’s Hot #4 {easy thrift store upcycles}

Do you ever feel like creativity is seriously lacking in your brain? Mine has been dormant for like…awhile. Not sure what happened these past few months. The role of mom is turning it into Swiss cheese or something. But when Charlotte of Ciburbanity invited me to join in for #SwapItLikeItsHot round four I said yes anyway! I love these challenges where bloggers send each other inexpensive thrift store finds to get made over.
Unfortunately, even getting some awesome thrifted goods from Bee of Windgate Lane did not kick my brain into gear. I have mulled over it ever since the items arrives, wondering what to do with the cool finds sent to me and the only thing I REALLY wanted to do with them, was leave them as is. But I know…I know…that would not make for good thrift store upcycling inspiration would it?

Natural Bohemian Fall Mantel

Last week, I showed my most recent mantel vignette in the second part of my fall home tour. Today, I am showing you more details of how I decorated it for fall this year. It has some similarities to last year's…natural with vintage finds, but this time around with more bohemian style thrown in.

Log Cabin Home Tour: Living Room & Porch

Last month when my family went to the Adirondacks, we had the pleasure of staying at a beautiful private log home. I previously shared the kitchen and dining room in this post, but today, I am excited to bring you back inside to tour the comfortable living room and serene cabin porch.
Upon entering the cabin, the living room was off to the left. No frills or fancy vaulted ceilings or stone fireplace like what you might imagine when you hear "log home", but it was very inviting and had a mix of relaxed and eclectic pieces. It truly felt like a home.

Fall Home Tour: The Porch & Kitchen

Welcome to the first installment of my fall home tour for 2015! If you came by way of Cozy Little House, I am thrilled you popped in for a visit. Be sure to head back over if you missed Brenda's tour. Today, I will be giving you a tour of our front porch and a rarely seen room on my blog…the kitchen!
I hope you enjoy your visit here today and do come back on Thursday, when I will share my second installment with the living room and dining room tours.

Let's get started…my husband and our two small children live in a tiny town just outside of Rochester, NY. The weather has been all over the place here lately, but just started to feel like fall. This is definitely my favorite time of year.
