The living room has gone through some changes since last spring when I first revealed it here. We painted the walls a slightly warmer and darker shade of gray, Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter. We finally finished hanging both industrial pipe curtain rods and I rearranged and removed several of the furnishings to lighten things up a bit. This is the area that guests enter, so I hate having it clogged up with junk. Very difficult in a small space! I am constantly removing things and rearranging trying to find the best layout. This one seems to work best so far. You will find a full source list at the bottom of this post.
We have had the faux suede microfiber couch and sofa for awhile now and love them. They are from Raymour & Flanigan. They fit with my casual style and are great with kids and a dog. The shag rug is another new addition to this space and comes from Rugs USA.
The living room has a subtle bohemian vibe with some neutral fall touches throughout.
Most of the books stacked on the cupboard are ones that I have had since I was in high school. I have quite a collection of art books and just can’t seem to let them go.
(You might notice some “artwork” on the drawer above. Pretty sure that was done by an artist named Owen.)
I purchased the wooden “etc.” sign at a thrift store a few months ago and gave it a makeover. I will share a before and after soon! It is amazing what a difference a little paint and sanding can do. I can’t help but add quirky elements like this all around our place.
beyond the “entryway wall”, you get a glimpse into the playroom/office area. Won’t be revealing that anytime soon! It is a disaster area most days.
Like I mentioned in my fall home tour post, the television is the first thing you see when you walk into our house (only because there is really nowhere else to put it…I have tried. Many, many, many times. Sigh.) It does reside on a beautiful antique sideboard that someone gave to us, so that helps. A little.
I hate seeing all the cords though, so I attempted to hide them with some fall decor and leaves 🙂
I love restyling shelves when the seasons change. Our old, rustic shelf was purchased at an antique store a few years ago. I kept it neutral with little pops of color in the blue mason jars.
The papier mache pumpkin is from Cloth and Patina and I shared a diy tutorial for the chevron burlap pumpkin awhile back.
Any shelves low enough, my kids love to rearrange. I don’t mind. I think it is kind of fun to see what they come up with.My mom bought Hazel and Owen some fall window stickers, which are actually pretty cute. They love to rearrange those too.
So there you have it! Our cozy, eclectic fall living room. It looks nothing like this right now, I have to admit. It is a wreck again, but looking at these photos is inspiring me to get it cleaned up. We’ll see…
I will be back on Friday to share more of my dining room in a Thanksgiving blog hop with several other talented bloggers, so make sure to come back!

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your living room up close Alice! I love that rug. You have definitely made it feel so homey! I smiled when you mentioned the shelves and the kids. I do the same thing with the grands. I have a large cabinet in my entry and the bottom shelf is always kid friendly. That's where I put seasonal books and toys that are cute for the holiday but kid friendly. Kids have to have fun too!

ReplyDeleteJust coming across your blog, I love your style! We have dark brown furniture too, so I'm glad I found how you styled it. Looks wonderful! I was actually considering buying that exact rug! How do you vacuum it? I'm just a little worried with the shag (and we have two pups, so lots of vacuuming needs to happen)! Thanks!
